Guildhall, Llwyn Isaf, Wrexham, North Wales

The Guildhall at Wrexham, North East Wales which serves as the administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra on 25 May 1961. With a population of nearly 135,000 inhabitants Wrexham County Borough is the largest local government area in North Wales.

As part of the Authority’s Plan, 2017 to 2022, Wrexham County Borough is continuing to modernise services by working towards achieving the “Louder than Words™” charter mark for the provision of services to deaf and hard of hearing customers. Louder than Words™ is a nationally recognised accreditation for organisations striving to offer excellent levels of service and accessibility for customers and employees who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Richard King Systems have provided specialist audio loop system services to the authority for many years with the extensive provision of loop systems at the Guildhall consisting of:

  • Main reception loop system
  • Portable loop system for one to one meetings
  • Meeting room Infra red loop system
  • Main council chamber loop system including the public gallery

As part of continuous improvement Richard King Systems where requested to submit scheme proposals for improvements to the public address system covering the public gallery in the main council chamber.

A high quality distributed loudspeaker system was specified to provide an even spread of intelligible and high fidelity speech reproduction. As the gallery is particularly wide in relation to the depth an imaginative solution was required to provide an effective and practical solution without detracting from the aesthetics of the chamber. For the mid area seating bespoke discrete loudspeaker stands where designed and produced to provide first class sound and ease of placement.

Linked to the microphone conference system together with the main audio loop system the public gallery sound system assists Wrexham County Borough Council in utilising technology to communicate as clearly as possible.

For closed meetings in the small meeting room individual infra red loop system neck loops are provided for persons with impaired hearing who use hearing aids. While in the main chambers individual audio induction neck loops connect to the microphone conference system.

Together with the portable on site loop system and main reception the systems at the Guildhall continue to provide excellent levels of service and accessibility for customers and employees.
